FOOD SAFETY
Food Safety is an integral part of our entire operation. Safe Food Practices are utilized in the growing, receiving, packing, cooling, shipping and warehousing parameters of the company. Safe food practices are also utilized by all our employees.
Dynamic in nature, our Food Safety Program requires ongoing review whenever necessary. As a result, each management action ensures that Food Safety is paramount to the overall objective of Washington Lettuce and Hughes Farms, earning us top marks with food safety inspectors across the state.
WHAT DOES THE PROGRAM CONSIST OF?
- The purpose of the Food Safety Program is to help ensure that environmental conditions and plant practices are sound and reduce the risk of producing unsafe products.
- This program is designed to address specific points of the process, according to the types of product marketed, the material used and the operations associated with the temporary storage, preparation and shipping of the product.
- The use of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) assist us in providing safe and high quality products.
- Our GMP’s include, but are not limited to, the associated risk, observations, and preventative measures of employee practices, product preparation procedures and equipment conditions/use. Adhering to GMP’s can reduce the risk of containments from all three categories—microbiological, physical, or chemical.
